  2. Introductions were made and there were 17 members present including PTO President April Bates, Vice President Suzanne Gdovic, Secretary Dana Frerich, and Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Richey.
  3. The minutes from the September PTO meeting were approved by general consensus.
  4. Reports of Officers
    1. President’s Report- April Bates read a letter of resignation from PTO President Chris Brown and reported that the LAPTO Board has appointed Suzanne Gdovic to the Vice President position.  The LA website now has a PTO tab where you can find all the pertinent PTO information.  The Lincoln Academy Pledge Drive will be paperless this year and you can find the letter for that on the PTO tab of the LA website.  An assembly planned for the elementary students on October 1st was nearly cancelled because of the roof construction in the gym, but the Creede Repertory Theater Company offered to do several workshops in the classrooms, instead of the single large assembly, for the same price.  There will be a skate party at U.S. on Wheels on Thursday February 11th.  The LA Board of Directors will host a facilities tour on Friday October 31st from 9 am-11am that will highlight the new roof construction.
    2. Vice President’s Report- Suzanne Gdovic asked for more people to help solicit donations for prize drawings throughout the year.  She also has a recap of information from last year that she wants to pass on to the new Grandparents’ Day committee.
    3. Secretary’s Report- Dana Frerich reported that PTO meeting minutes and agendas will be posted on the PTO web page.
    4. Volunteer Coordinator’s Report- Michelle Richey continues to need volunteers to help serve hot lunch.  The Parent Corner is up and running with a computer and printer for logging hours, purchasing hot lunch, making Pledge Drive donations etc...  She also asked for a volunteer to stay with the students who are waiting to go onstage during the Talent Show.
    5. Treasurer’s Report- April Bates reported, in Bernadette Templeton’s absence, the monthly report of the PTO’s accounting.  There were several allocations that needed to be made as noted in the Treasurer’s Report (filed with these minutes).  Motions were made, seconded and approved for these allocations.
  5. LA Board of Directors member Susan Davis reported that it has been decided to not have the gym floor replaced until next summer.  The roof is nearly finished and we are awaiting the glass to complete the project.
  6. Reports of Committees
    1. Volunteer Night- There was great feedback from the parents who attended and the teachers who reaped the rewards.
    2. Ice Skating Family Day- There were 125 participants and the PTO ended up covering $67 for the cost of the ice time.  We would like to do it again next year in the fall.
    3. Food for Conferences- The teachers present at the meeting expressed appreciation for the food that was donated for conferences.
    4. Pledge Drive- The Pledge Drive is going “green” this year!  The pledge drive letters will be going out in the PTO Newsletter and it is available on the Lincoln Academy website as well.  There will be a prize drawing for families that turn in their Pledge forms by the deadline.
    5. Chili Cook-Off- Marina Bowers reported that she is asking for more volunteers for this event.  There is a flier going home in Monday Folders next week.  Reminders will continue to go in the PTO Newsletter. There was discussion regarding what kind of prizes to give the winners.  She requested an additional $100 beyond the budgeted $100.  It was moved, seconded and approved to provide additional money to the Chili Cook-Off.
    6. Dr. Carlton Scholarship and Pizza Palz- Mrs. Johnson described the scholarship process and announced that the Pizza Palz are now available in the front office for $11.
    7. 72nd Avenue Clean-up- Dana Frerich reported that the City of Arvada requests that we clean-up the Adopt-a-Street 4 times per year.  We may need to solicit for volunteers and set dates to fulfill this commitment.
  7. Unfinished Business — Capri Sun recycling- It is understood that Christy Seyfer will take charge of placing and maintaining the recycling receptacle for drink pouches.
  8. New Business
    1. Brick for Jonathan Nicks’ family- Jonathan Nicks is a former Lincoln Academy student that passed away over the summer.  The PTO would like to purchase a brick to place on the Middle School entrance to honor him.  The family is working on the wording for the brick and will be in touch with Mrs. Johnson soon.
    2. Holiday Shop- The idea was presented to have a shop where students can buy inexpensive Christmas presents.  It may be done in conjunction with the Drop and Shop event in December.
    3. Lowe’s grant- Mrs. Johnson is working with Kristi Harris on applying for a $5000 grant that will go toward landscaping or improving the facilities.  The application deadline is in February, so they will be working on that in the coming months.
    4. Display boards- These were sold for the Middle School Creative Minds Expo and more boards were purchased in preparation for the elementary school Minds at Work.
